Joint Stock Company "Kazakhstan Operator of the Electric Power and Capacity Market" (KOREM JSC) was established in accordance with Resolution No. 606 of the Government of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated April 20, 2000, "On Additional Measures to Improve the Efficiency of the Wholesale Electric Power and Capacity Market," with the aim of ensuring the sustainable functioning, development, and increased efficiency of the wholesale electric power market of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

JSC "KOREM" carries out the following types of activities:

  • organizes and conducts centralized electricity capacity trading for a one-year period
  • organizes and conducts spot electricity trading
  • organizes and conducts auction trading for the construction of newly commissioned generating units with a maneuverable generation mode
  • conducts auction trading in an electronic system aimed at selecting projects for the construction of new renewable energy source facilities
  • carries out the purchase and sale of balancing electricity and negative imbalances on the electricity balancing market
  • calculates the hourly volumes of balancing electricity and imbalances of electricity balancing market entities in accordance with the procedure established by the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan
  • calculates the hourly weighted average prices for the sale of balancing electricity and the purchase of negative imbalances within each balancing zone of the unified electric power system of the Republic of Kazakhstan in accordance with the procedure approved by the authorized body
  • performs other functions of the settlement center of the balancing market provided for by the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan "On Electric Power Industry"
  • determines the maximum tariff for balancing electricity and the maximum tariff for negative imbalances
