Prospects of relations between Kazakhstan and Mongolia in the field of electric power industry
On 26 February 2025, the Chairman of the Management Board of KOREM JSC held a meeting with representatives of the Centre for Acceleration of Reforms under the Government of Mongolia, with the participation of the Counsellor of the Embassy of Mongolia in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the structure of the energy sector and the system of relations in the electricity markets of Kazakhstan and Mongolia.
Also, KOREM JSC presented the reforms carried out in the electric power industry, aimed at restructuring the wholesale electricity market in order to maintain balance in the energy system of the country, providing for the introduction of a single buyer of electricity and balancing market in real time.
In addition, the current results of Kazakhstan on the results of the implementation of the auction bidding mechanism for the selection of investors for renewable energy and manoeuvre generation projects were considered.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to continue co-operation and exchange of views on attracting investment in the generation sector, further development of the RES sector, including electricity storage systems.
