Repeat auctions for the construction of newly commissioned generating units with a maneuverable generation mode held in Kazakhstan
On 19 January 2025 at 10:00, a repeat auction bidding was conducted on the trading platform of “KOREM” JSC for the construction of newly commissioned generating units with a maneuverable generation mode for the Southern zone of the Unified Power System of the Republic of Kazakhstan (Shymkent).
In accordance with the schedule of auction trading for the construction of newly commissioned generating units with a maneuverable generation mode, approved by Order of the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 237-н/қ dated 13 June 2025, an auction for the Southern zone (Shymkent) was held on 15 December 2025. That auction was declared void due to the participation of fewer than two admitted participants.
In this regard, the Commission decided to hold repeat auction trading on 19 January 2026.
Three companies were admitted to participate in the repeat auction bidding, with a total bid volume of 1,500 MW. During the trading session, the participants submitted 442 price bids.
As a result, the reduction in the auction price amounted to 41,2 % – from KZT 16,299,800 to KZT 9,600,000 per MW·month (excluding VAT).
The winner of the auction bidding was Private Company NextGen Power Systems Ltd., with a volume of 500 MW at a price of KZT 9,600,000 per MW·month (excluding VAT).
As observers, representatives of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, “Financial Settlement Center for RES” LLP and the Association of Legal Entities “Kazakhstan Electric Power Association” took part in the auction trading. The observers noted the full transparency and efficiency of the electronic trading system of the auction organizer “KOREM” JSC.
