Kazakhstan Promotes a Just Energy Transition in Central Asia
On the second day of RES-2026, a panel session titled "Just Energy Transition: Policy, Investment, and Human Capital in Central Asia" was held with the participation of representatives from government agencies, international organizations, financial institutions, and business.
Minister of Energy Yerlan Akkenzhenov delivered a welcoming speech. In his address, he noted that Central Asia is at an important stage of development, possessing significant resources and high potential for modernizing energy infrastructure.
The Minister emphasized that for Kazakhstan, the energy transition is a strategy for sustainable growth and strengthening energy security. The country's long-term goal remains achieving carbon neutrality by 2060.
During the session, it was noted that Kazakhstan's energy policy is aimed at balancing three key priorities: the reliability of energy supply, energy affordability for the population and business, and environmental sustainability.
Special attention is being paid to human capital development. Kazakhstan is launching an industry-specific personnel training platform focused on the needs of the energy sector, including renewable energy, digitalization, and automation.
Measures to attract investment in the energy industry were also presented. Projects in wind and solar power generation continue to be implemented, along with the practice of transparent auctions.
As part of the event, the launch of Kazakhstan's Country Investment Platform for the Energy Transition was announced, which will become a tool for consolidating public and private investment for modernizing energy infrastructure and introducing advanced technologies.
Special attention was paid to the establishment of an Industry Technology Competence Center based at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. The Center will provide analytical support for projects, implement digital modeling, and develop technological solutions in the energy sector.
Participants emphasized the importance of strengthening regional cooperation in Central Asia, including the development of energy infrastructure, enhancing energy security, and expanding electricity trade.
Kazakhstan reaffirmed its openness to cooperation with international partners, investors, and technology companies to achieve a sustainable energy future.
