The First RE Auction was held on May 23, 2018
On May 23, 2018, the Auction System for Renewable Energy projects was launched. The First RE Auction held for the Northern Zone (Akmola, Aktobe, East Kazakhstan, Karaganda, Kostanay, Pavlodar and North-Kazakhstan regions) to select wind projects with a total capacity of 20 MW.
9 applications were received from Kazakhstani companies, with a single project capacity from 2 to 7 MW. The total volume of proposed capacity was 40.7 MW. The starting price for the Auction was 22.67 KZT/kWh. During the 3-hour trading session, the proposed tariff range was from 22.67 KZT/kWh to 18 KZT/kWh.
The Auction was recognized as having taken place, because there were more than 3 participants and more than 150% of the purchased capacity, according to the Auction Rules for Selection of Renewable Energy Projects.
Representatives of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, non-governmental sector and international organizations participated in the Auction as observers. Observers noted the full transparency of the electronic trading system implemented by the organizer of the Auction - JSC KOREM.
Following the results of electronic Auction, the winners were determined as follows:
- Zenchenko and K LP, 2 MW, with a price of 18 KZT/kWh
- Vichy LLP, 7 MW, with a price of 18.01 KZT/kWh
- Ventum Energy, 4.95 MW, with the price of 18.99 KZT/kWh
- EastWindEnergy LLP, 4.95 MW, with the price of 19.99 KZT/kWh
- Ivan Zenchenko LLP, 2 MW, with the price of 22.53 KZT/kWh.
The Next Auction will be held on 24/05/2018.

The First International Auctions for the selection of RE Projects are planned to be held from May 23 to June 7 and from October 3 to 18 in Kazakhstan.
Auctions, being one of the planned steps on development of renewable energy sources, are aimed at selecting the most effective projects and forming market competitive prices for electric power, produced by renewable energy plants.
According to the Auction Rules for Selection of Renewable Energy Projects (approved by the Order of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan No. 466 from December 21, 2018), the Ministry developed the Schedule for RE Auctions.
According to the Auctions Schedule, Auctions for a total 1,000 MW of installed capacity are planned to be held in 2018, divided by the following types of RE power plants:
- Solar Power Plants - 290 MW;
- Wind Power Plants - 620 MW;
- Hydroelectric Power Plants - 75 MW;
- Bio Power Plants - 15 MW.
The organizer of Auctions is JSC KOREM.
