On July 25, 2023, a seminar on the topic «Auction bidding for the selection of projects for the construction of HPP in Kazakhstan» was held at the site of JSC «Kazakhstan Electric Energy and Capacity Market Operator» with the support of the USAID project «Energy of Central Asia» in a hybrid format.

The seminar was attended by representatives of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Settlement and Financial Center for Renewable Energy Support, KAZAKH INVEST and JSC «KOREM».

A.V. Doronin, Managing Director for Strategy and Business Support, Member of the Board of JSC «KOREM», made a welcoming speech. He noted that the company holds meetings with investors before the start of the auction, including in the video conferencing format.

S.T. Dukenbayev, Head of the Department of Renewable Energy Development of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, told about the development of renewable energy in Kazakhstan in his speech. The speaker shared the indicators of the industry for July of this year, the measures of state support carried out, brief results of renewable energy auctions for 2018-2022 and further steps for the development of renewable energy.

 «There are currently 132 renewable energy facilities operating in the Republic of Kazakhstan, the total installed capacity is 2.5 GW. According to the results of the first half of 2023, electricity generation from RES amounted to 3.3 billion. kWh, which is 40% more than in the same period last year or 5.8% of the total electricity production. This year, the marginal price for HPP projects is 41.23 tg/kWh.» - Sultan Dukenbayev noted in his report.

The report on the RES auction was made by the chief manager – head of the sector of JSC «KOREM» Ten A.L. In his speech, Alexander Ten provided detailed information about registration in the trading system, how the trading day of the RES auction is going, the conditions for submitting an application, calculating prices and summing up the auction results. He noted that the participants of the auction can be trained by the organizer of the auction. At the end of the report, he informed about the deadline for organizing and conducting auctions for the selection of projects for the construction of hydroelectric power plants in Kazakhstan and about the availability of the necessary information on the website www.korem.kz.

The Chief Manager of the RES Department of the RES Settlement and Financial Center for RES Support LLP, Usenov Rufat, informed about the need for financial support by auction participants, their types, conditions of return and retention.

Leila Gimranova, Project Manager of JSC «KAZAKH INVEST» National Company», thanked the organizers of the seminar and noted the importance of holding such events to raise investors' awareness of participating in auctions for the implementation of renewable energy projects and support measures provided to investors. She spoke about the state support for investment activities in Kazakhstan and the available investment preferences.   

The participants of the videoconference took an active part in the Q&A session, receiving explanatory answers to all questions of interest.
