A cybersecurity training center for the energy sector in Kazakhstan is being launched on the basis of KOREM JSC

On June 25-26, 2024, a meeting with companies of the energy industry of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the development of a cybersecurity training center for the energy sector of Kazakhstan (hereinafter referred to as the Training Center) was held at the site of JSC "Kazakhstan Operator of the Electric Energy and Capacity Market".

The meeting is aimed at identifying the needs of energy sector companies in cybersecurity training, the existence of existing problems and ways to solve them, as well as to establish topics of interest and the format of training, standards, case studies, etc.

The project of cybersecurity training and the creation of a training center for Kazakhstan is being implemented with the financial support of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), as well as a joint partnership between the United States Energy Association (USEA) and the University of Arizona USA (ASU) on the basis of KOREM JSC.

On the basis of the Training Center, it is planned to train managers and technical specialists of information technologies and operational technologies of energy enterprises of Kazakhstan, in terms of exchanging experience on aspects of cybersecurity of US energy enterprises, identifying problematic issues of cybersecurity in the energy industry of Kazakhstan, responding to threats, recommendations for the development of methodological documents on cybersecurity of energy enterprises, etc.

The meeting was attended by Yang Wen - Associate Professor of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering and Energy at Arizona State University, and James Nelson - Director of Technology and Innovation at the Laboratory of Energy and Energy Solutions at Arizona State University.

The event was attended by specialists of information, operational technology and information security of KEGOC JSC, Astana-Energia JSC, AREK JSC and Astana-Regional Electric Grid Company JSC.

The next offline training meeting is scheduled to be held in the third quarter of this year. As a result of the training, participants will receive a certificate of completion of the course.
