Centralized trading of electric power: results for the Northern and Southern zones of Kazakhstan's UES zone
On November 27, 2024, centralized auctions of electric power in the Northern and Southern zones of Kazakhstan’s UES zone were held on the trading platform of «KOREM» JSC, taking into account the North-South capacity.
To conduct centralized trading of electric power, the following initial parameters were provided to JSC «KOREM» by a Single buyer and a System Operator:
- forecast demand for electric power in the Northern and Southern zones of Kazakhstan’s UES zone – 6 113.1 MW, including 4 480.2 MW in the Northern Zone of Kazakhstan’s UES zone, 1 632.9 MW in the Southern zone of Kazakhstan’s UES zone;
- the capacity of power transmission lines connecting the Northern and Southern zones of Kazakhstan’s UES zone is 1,100 MW.
To limit the unjustified increase in prices for electric power in the trading system, the marginal tariff for the service for maintaining the availability of electric power in the amount of 1,170 thousand tenge/MW per month (excluding VAT) was used, approved by Order No. 407 of the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated November 19, 2024 "On Amendments to the Order of the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan dated 3 July 2015 No. 465 "On approval of marginal tariffs for the service for maintaining the availability of electric power."
21 energy-producing organizations took part in centralized auctions of electric capacity.
According to the results of centralized trading of electric power, the total volume of sold capacity in the Northern and Southern zones of Kazakhstan’s UES zone amounted to 6 113.1 MW, including in the Northern zone of the UES of the Republic of Kazakhstan – 4 480.2 MW and in the Southern zone of the UES of the Republic of Kazakhstan – 1 632.9 MW. The number of concluded transactions in the trading system was 21. The weighted average price according to the results of centralized trading of electric capacity was 1 160 thousand tenge/MW per month (excluding VAT).
The total volume of applications from energy-producing organizations submitted to the trading system amounted to 7 926 MW.
The unrealized volume of services for maintaining the availability of electric power amounted to 1 812.9 MW.
Representatives of the Kazakhstan’s Energy Ministry, JSC "Kazakhstan Electric Power Association", LLP "Settlement and Financial Center for Support of Renewable Energy Sources” took part as observers at the centralized auctions of electric power.
