Centralized electric power trading: results for the Mangystau region of the Kazakhstan’s Western zone of the UES

On November 28, 2024, from 10:00 a.m., centralized auctions of electric power in the Mangistau region of the Kazakhstan’s Western zone of the UES were held on the trading floor of KOREM JSC, taking into account the capacity of the power transmission line towards the Mangistau power hub.

To conduct centralized trading of electric power, the following initial parameters were provided to «KOREM» JSC by a Single buyer and a System Operator:

- projected demand for electric power in the Mangystau region of the Western zone of the UES of the Republic of Kazakhstan – 358.8 MW;

- the capacity of power transmission lines towards the Mangystau power plant is 200 MW.

The marginal tariff for the service for maintaining the availability of electric power amounted to 1,170 thousand tenge/MW per month (excluding VAT).

6 energy-producing organizations took part in centralized auctions of electric power.

According to the results of centralized trading of electric power, the total volume of sold capacity amounted to 358.8 MW, including in the Mangystau region – 158.8 MW, in the West Kazakhstan and Atyrau regions of the Kazakhstan’s Western zone of the UES – 200 MW. The number of concluded transactions in the trading system was - 5.  The weighted average price according to the results of centralized trading of electric capacity was 1 169.66 thousand tenge/MW per month (excluding VAT).

The total volume of applications from energy-producing organizations submitted to the trading system amounted to 651 MW.

The unrealized volume of electric capacity maintenance services amounted to 292.2 MW.

Representatives of the Kazakhstan’s   Energy   Ministry, JSC "Kazakhstan Electric Power Association", LLP "Settlement and Financial Center for Support of Renewable Energy Sources” took part as observers at the centralized auctions of electric power.
