The twentieth auction for selection of RES projects was held for the Southern zone of Kazakhstan
28 applications were received from 20 companies, with a single project capacity from 10.2 to 100 MW. The total volume of proposed capacity was 1270,199 MW. The starting price for the Auction was 32 KZT/kWh. Following the 3-hour trading session results, price range proposed in Participant's bids was from 18.6 KZT/kWh to 32 KZT/kWh.
The Auction was recognized as having taken place, because there were at least 2 participants and more than 130% of the purchased capacity, according to the Rules of organizing and holding auction, including qualification requirements for auction participants, the content and procedure for submitting applications, types of financial guarantee for participation in auction and conditions of their deposit and return, the procedure for summing up the results and determining the winner.
Representatives of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, non-governmental sector and international organizations participated in the Auction as observers. Observers noted the full transparency of the electronic trading system implemented by the Auction organizer - JSC KOREM.
Following the results of electronic Auction, the winners were determined as follows:
- JSC Hydroenergy company, 50 MW, with a price of 18.6 KZT/kWh;
- Avelar Solar Technology LLC, 20 MW, with a price of 18.8 KZT/kWh;
- Avelar Solar Technology LLC, 50 MW, with a price of 22.5 KZT/kWh;
- Shell Kazakhstan B.V. Branch, 50 MW, with a price of 22.9 KZT/kWh.

According to the schedule of auction for 2018 approved by the Order of the ME of the RK No. 65 dated February 22, 2018, the First International Auctions for selection of RE Projects are planned to be held from May 23 to June 7 and from October 3 to 18 in Kazakhstan.
Auctions, being one of the planned steps on development of renewable energy sources, are aimed at selecting the most effective projects and forming competitive market prices for electric energy produced by RE facilities.
According to the schedule of auction, Auctions for a total 1,000 MW of installed capacity are planned to be held in 2018, divided by the following types of RE power plants:
Solar Power Plants - 290 MW;
Wind power plants - 620 MW;
Hydroelectric Power Plants - 75 MW;
Bio Power Plants - 15 MW.
