Energy consumption in Kazakhstan is much higher than modern standards - expert
How much energy consumption in the cities of Kazakhstan exceeds modern standards, said Alexander Bely, UNDP Project Manager in Kazakhstan.
“The main consumers of energy, heat and electricity, are industry and households in cities, that is, our buildings. We get energy, if it is an apartment building, from a CHP. Unfortunately, a very large number of our buildings were built according to old building codes that do not meet modern requirements, ”said Alexander Bely.
The speaker noted that almost 80% of all buildings in our cities were built in the 70s and 80s of the last century.
“Together with our partners, we conducted research and found that houses consume up to 260, sometimes 300 kWh per square meter per year. This is a lot according to modern standards. For example, a 5-storey building in the capital should not consume more than 156 kW per hour, this is bad and something needs to be done about it. In the south, the situation is no better, because some buildings there consume up to 150-180 kW at the current rates twice as low - 80-90 kW per square meter, ”explained Alexander Bely.
