Great Britain offers Kazakhstan to develop joint projects in RES

On February 6 of this year, Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan Almasadam Satkaliev met with British Ambassador Catherine Leach and the British delegation on climate issues in Central Asia, the press service of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan reports.

During the meeting, the British side presented the UK's Climate, Energy and Water Security Program Fund for Central Asia with a total funding of 19-20 million pounds for a 3-year period.

The British delegation got acquainted with Kazakhstan's plans for the gradual decarbonization of the economy within the framework of the goals of the Strategy to achieve Carbon Neutrality by 2060. The UK government is ready to develop joint projects in the areas of renewable energy (wind and solar energy), strengthening electric networks, switching coal plants to gas, conducting research in the field of hydrogen energy, biogas and carbon capture technologies (CCUS).

The decision announced by the President of Kazakhstan Tokayev K.K. within the framework of COP-28 in December 2023 on the accession of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the Global Methane Commitment significantly expands opportunities for attracting financing for low-carbon technology projects. The British side noted the importance and timeliness of Kazakhstan's accession to this global initiative.

At the end of the meeting, the British delegation thanked the Minister of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan for a productive dialogue.
