The Ministry of Energy together with the Asian Development Bank carried out work on the development of the «Smart Grid» Concept

On August 16, 2023, a regular meeting of the Public Council was held at the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan with the participation of Vice-Minister of Energy Zhandos Nurmaganbetov, the press service of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan reports.

During the meeting, the Vice Minister spoke about the status of the implementation of the Concept of Development of the electric power industry for 2023-2029.

Within the framework of the Concept, a number of tasks have been set in several areas, including:

- increase in installed capacity to 39 GW;

- increasing the share of maneuverable generating capacities to 20%;

- reduction of the level of depreciation of generating capacities up to 50%;

- reducing the level of depreciation of regional electrical networks to 55%;

- the level of equipment with digital electricity metering devices up to 100%, etc.

In his speech, the Vice Minister also voiced questions on improving the accounting of electricity production and losses in the Republic of Kazakhstan by introducing incentive measures for the modernization of ASMAE and SCADA. «To date, in order to create intelligent systems and improve the efficiency of the electric grid complex, the Ministry, together with the Asian Development Bank, has carried out work on the development of the «Smart Grid» Concept. As part of the competitive procedures, international and national consultants were involved», - stressed Zh .Nurmaganbetov.

Members of the Public Council made a number of proposals to improve regulatory documents in this industry. In particular, according to the proposals of the members of the Public Council, the possibilities for upgrading 0.4 kV distribution networks will be considered in order to increase efficiency and reduce losses in electric networks.
